Two days
Friday
My last day of work
Two weeks of vacation, one day of holiday pay, then 'bye-'bye
January 31, 1972 - May 31, 2010
38 years, 4 months
June 1 will mark the 1st time in 62 years that a Distelzweig will not be working at the Electric Co.
Yes, my severance application was approved. My duties have all been transferred to others who have been gracious in their acceptance of additional work on already-too-full plates. For that, I feel a little guilty. It was never my intent to be burdensome.
So, while I'm absolutely elated on the one hand, I'm also a touch saddened knowing that many long-term working relationships will be permanently severed at the end of the month. How many of you will I not see again? Well, since this is happening quickly, all the best of luck, health and wealth, in case we don't get the chance to talk.
And although a little sad, I'm also unsure of the future, and that's a little unsettling. Well, no one said this would be easy.
There's plenty to keep me busy around the home front... bathroom re-hab, re-stipling the ceilings, painting inside & out, new flooring throughout, kitchen sink, counter-top, stove (etc.), new doors inside & out, finish painting basement walls, facia & soffet on the garage with gutters & downspouts, "summerize" the boat, boat trailer needs overhauled, cars need a good wash, wax & detailed inside & out... the list grows & grows!
Haven't gotten up with Heindog & Stadz the last couple of times. We'll see what happens next time, eh?
Thinking about learning the harmonica... don't know why I just said that...
Oh, back to the retirement: I'll have to keep you posted on how that works out. Stay tuned.
Leave a comment, or don't. I'll still be awesome anyway.
